Personal Philosophy of Nursing

The profession of a nurse is one of the leading jobs in terms of importance and positive contribution to society. That is why my choice fell in favor of this field and motivated me to become the best specialist I can be. Moreover, this area is a valuable source of knowledge that can be useful both in the workplace and in personal life. To become an effective specialist in nursing, individuals need to gain awareness of personal psychology.

The personal psychology of nursing involves gaining an understanding of the main reason for choosing this area of employment. Future specialists should also know their strengths and weaknesses to identify where changes may be required. The most critical aspect is the definition of values related to health, patients, and their loved ones, as well as collaboration with fellow healthcare providers. Thus, this work defines my vector of development as a medical nurse.

Choice of Nursing

The profession of a nurse is of particular value primarily because it makes a significant positive contribution to society. Health is a critically important component of people’s lives, and the role of healthcare professionals is to maintain and improve it (McMaster et al., 2018). Kristen Swanson’s theory inspires me because it emphasizes helping those to whom individuals feel a personal sense of commitment and responsibility (Beristain-García et al., 2022). Therefore, I want to become a nurse because I think it is essential to show that this profession includes providing care and building a strong connection with patients.

It is also worth noting that I chose to be a nurse because this specialty provides an opportunity to gain extensive knowledge and invaluable experience. This implies studying medical information directly and learning how to communicate with people and provide them with the utmost comfort. In addition, nurses are trained in leadership, time management, and stress management, which can be helpful in their personal lives.

Essence of Nursing

The core of the nursing profession represents specific values and principles that must be followed by every specialist and that greatly impact this profession. Compliance with ethical aspects is of critical importance. This is because this profession implies direct interaction with people. Many approaches facilitate this aspect in clinical care and treatment. Therefore, this aspect has a significant impact on how nurses conduct their practice and work with patients.

Regarding political factors, the core of nursing represents special regulatory and governmental measures with which nurses must comply. Compliance with these measures allows the preservation of characteristics such as quality and professionalism. Historical context also has an immense influence on nursing practice. For example, many crucial historical figures, like Florence Nightingale, made an outstanding contribution to the development of this field and its values and morals.

Beliefs and Values

I believe that patients are a central part of a nurse’s job. Healthcare providers’ central policies and practices should be built around individuals who need them. They should aim to establish the most effective and productive methods of treatment. Moreover, these specialists should direct their efforts to provide comfortable conditions for people. Therefore, in my opinion, patient-centered care is the main task of any nurse.

Further, the patient’s family and significant others play an equally critical role in achieving successful and adequately selected treatment outcomes. This is due to providing psychological support, which is especially crucial for patients regardless of their condition. In addition, I advocate for encouraging the education of patients and their loved ones to increase the possibility of the fastest treatment.

Collaboration is an integral part of the work of a nurse. In other words, building friendly relations with fellow healthcare providers will become a driver to ensure high-quality medical services. Moreover, interaction with other medical specialists improves decision-making and increases attention to researching new technologies and ways to help patients.

The work of a nurse allows me to understand my body better and improve the quality of my health. The experience and knowledge provided during the training reveal greater awareness about the risk factors of various diseases and preventive measures that can be incorporated into my personal life. In addition, regarding my health, nursing helps show the importance of basic health knowledge by example.

Vision for the Future

Over the next two years, I want to gain as much knowledge as possible about working as a nurse and learn more about the profession’s subtleties. During this period, I can find a place of work to practice the information I have received and gain additional experience in its practical application. Furthermore, in two years, I will be able to improve my skills in leadership, emotional intelligence, decision-making, and stress management.

In five years, I see myself as a full-fledged specialist who will work in a medical institution. At this stage, I will continue replenishing my nursing knowledge and experience. The main difference of this period is the direct work with patients and gaining awareness of previously unknown subtleties of the profession. In five years, I will continue to attend various educational training to improve myself as a specialist.

In ten years, I will probably upgrade my qualifications and move from a nurse to the rank of a practicing doctor. This assumption is due to the desire to continue my studies, which will allow me to expand the boundaries of my capabilities (McMaster et al., 2018). In addition, I will be a member of one of the leading medical associations that will assist in my life-learning drive. I would also like to participate in various studies to improve the quality and satisfaction of patients.

The main strength of my character is persistence in achieving my goals. This characteristic will allow me to achieve all my goals and not give up when difficulties arise. Moreover, my strength is a constant craving for knowledge and gaining new experiences, which will allow me to establish communication with like-minded people. The ability to work in a group will contribute to acquiring new skills and building a decision-making process.

Laziness is the main limitation I must overcome to achieve my professional goals. Even though I can be very persistent, I sometimes have difficulties balancing rest and work. I will need to find ways to manage this aspect since I am satisfied if I achieve my goals, but I have difficulty making the initial steps.
