Introduction

Evidence-based practice is of great significance to health care. Evidence-based practice increases dependence on nursing theories. Moreover, evidence-based practice provides nurses with credible information on nursing. Additionally, evidence-based practice enables nurses to conduct appraisal on research articles. It should be noted that choosing correct evidence-based practice model is crucial to improvement of quality of service delivery. Clinical research concerns research on best ways of treating patients. This paper will explore evidence-based practice models. Additionally, the paper will explore differences between evidence-based practice and clinical research (McEwen & Wills, 2010).

EBP model that would best support the exploration of the practice problem utilized for Application #5

After a thorough search, I found that Interdisciplinary model of evidence based practice would best suit the practice problem in question. Interdisciplinary model covers for all the inefficiencies of other models since it covers all associated disciplines. Moreover, it would help in addressing historical shortcomings in nursing and healthcare. Current developments in evidence-based practice have enabled integration of interdisciplinary model into nursing, public health, social work as well as psychology, among others. Additionally, interdisciplinary model has also led to the development of “three circles” model, which have been important in showing developments in evidence-based practice across all disciplines. In essence, interdisciplinary model of evidence-based practice is the best model that would tackle the practice problem effectively (Fitzpatrick, 2010).

The practice problem in question involved creation of a concept map. This concerned strategic management, which draws from different disciplines. Strategic management in health care setting should be effective and unifying to help fast track service delivery. Cooperation in care giving is mandatory; therefore, strategic management should encompass unity among stakeholders in health care settings. Moreover, strategic management should be effective. Additionally, strategies should be made to help resolve conflicts, which may arise from overlapping roles. As earlier explained, the practice problem was aimed at achieving specific objectives in health care organizations. To achieve this, a concept map was outlined with objectives and course of action. Essentially, interdisciplinary evidence based practice model would best suit this practice problem because it draws from different disciplines (Ganz, Fink, Raanan, Asher, Bruttin, Nun & Benbinishty, 2009).

Summary of how evidence-based practice differs from clinical research, and perception of the role of DNP-prepared nurses in both

Evidence-based practice provides nursing theories, which can be, appraised for use in health care. On the other hand, clinical research includes findings, which are aimed at improving patient care. In this regard, it can be noted that clinical research is patient oriented, which means that it focuses on human interaction. Additionally, clinical research is behavioral or epidemiologic. Moreover, clinical research can be considered to be based on research in health services and outcomes. Essentially, clinical research emphasizes improvement of health. On the other hand, evidence based practice depends on past practices. DNP-nurses are prepared to utilize evidence-based practice in appraising nursing theories to acquire best nursing practices. In addition, DNP nurses are expected to fulfill the objective of clinical research. That is, DNP nurses should integrate evidence-based practice with clinical research to achieve best nursing practices (Krom, Batten & Bautista, 2010).

Conclusion

Evidence-based practice involves practical activities, which focuses on established theories. On the other hand, clinical research focuses on improving human health through interaction with patients. Both approaches are important since they help improve patient health. Therefore, DNP nurses should integrate both approaches in nursing practice to improve service delivery. In this regard, there is use of both epistemological and practical to achieve health care objectives.
