Introduction

It is valid for all sciences and specialties that practice cannot exist without theory. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend nursing concepts and theories in order to succeed in a professional career. It is crucial to understand the development of historical theories and what is relevant to contemporary science. All the objectives of the Concepts and Theories in Nursing course were successfully achieved, which will significantly affect my professional life.

The Course Objectives’ Achievement

I confidently state that I achieved all of the course’s goals. From a gender and multicultural perspective, I thoroughly learned the nursing profession’s fundamental theories and conceptual frameworks. After the course, I can see the main points of these theories, such as the argument made by gender in favor of the necessity of addressing the gender gap in medical practice (Brandão et al., 2019). Multicultural, in turn, suggests that it is essential to consider the patients’ cultural heritages when providing them with care.

The distinction between concepts of person, health, nursing, and environment, such as biomedical, humanistic, and ecological, is another goal I have achieved. I also discovered how Nursing Theory, which establishes the direction for scholarly inquiry into the subject and the incorporation of rules in organizations, has had a significant impact on nursing practice, education, research, and leadership (Smith, 2019).

One of the objectives of the course was to use critical thinking in applying theoretical frameworks and models to professional nursing roles. I have succeeded in this because I know how to incorporate the patient’s cultural background into the treatment, for instance, nutrition. I gained knowledge about peer review, clinical experience, and how to assess nursing concepts, models, and theories for use in nursing practice.

I also succeeded in completing the goal of using my philosophical convictions in nursing practice. In particular, I understand my ethical principles and how to resolve moral dilemmas at work. Additionally, I am now prepared to use various forms of reasoning in my practice and understand the significance of doing so. The final objective I completed was the ability to use reasoning in nursing practice to analyze data for diagnosis and treatment.

Changes in Professional Practice Influenced by Course Materials

The course has impacted my professional practice because I can use what I learned to treat patients. I can use critical thinking to make decisions in challenging circumstances because of my understanding of the theories and concepts of nursing. I now have my methods for reasoning, and I use abductive reasoning, for instance, when there are not enough details about a patient. Now that I can rely on scientific research, I have a stronger theoretical foundation and feel more secure in my professional practice.

Impact of Nursing Theory on Professional Practice

The nursing theory will impact my practice because I will have a conceptual framework for caring for patients and meeting their needs. The theory will assist me in patient diagnosis and care, and make adjustments that take the patient’s cultural traits into account. Additionally, I will have a foundation from prior experiences described in theory, which will facilitate the healing process. Nursing should be based on the information that the theory provides.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Concepts and Theories in Nursing course greatly benefits nursing professionals. It is crucial to comprehend the theoretical underpinnings of the profession because it provides assurance and a theoretical foundation for decisions regarding the care of patients. The course also covers decision-making methods and teaches how to deal with morality-related issues. Nursing practice that does not have a scientific foundation is much less effective than one where the nurse also has theoretical knowledge.
