Situational Analysis
My current practice environment is the nursing practice in the psychiatric department. The nurse’s work in this setting is connected with the high-stress level and the subsequent burnout. The critical issue in this work is the result of the excessive communication between nurses and patients’ empathy (Godzik, 2019). The issue of concern observed in the psychiatric department is the inability of some nurses to find a balance between empathy towards patients and personal boundaries that help them preserve their emotional stability.
Gap Analysis
The typical situation that leads to nurse burnout is the inability of the nurse to be overly emotional when interacting with patients. Communication is integral to this profession, and nurses cannot reduce the dialogue with patients to a minimum. In some instances, patients need the emotional and spiritual help of the nurses, and it is the professional duty of the healthcare professional to provide this assistance.
As a result, the nurse feels that they are tired of the problems the patients have. They continue thinking about the issues their patients discussed after work, leading to emotional burnout (Kalaitzidis & Jewell, 2020). Even though this communication does not violate any standards of the nurse’s practice role, the professional should find the optimal solution for their well-being without sacrificing the quality of care.
Options Analysis
The best practices that can be applied here include the improvement of personal boundaries and preserving the work-life balance. Nurses should understand that they must have a clear mind and a stable psyche to help their patients. Both options are available for psychiatric nurses, but specific problems are connected with implementing these initiatives. The main issue is teaching nurses practical ways to preserve their mental and emotional stability and avoid burnout (Mukaihata et al., 2022).
Implementation
Implementing the improvement plan is gradual, and achieving the set goals might take over a month. The outcomes are long-term because nurses will learn how to preserve their work-life balance and avoid excessive stress and burnout. The stakeholders include nurses and managers who can coordinate the educational processes.
