Perhaps the most important thing in developing a professional career is loving what you do. It can be incredibly challenging to understand what it is, and even more challenging to find a job that has that aspect. That said, I think I have a grasp on what I love to do, which is helping the people that need help. The entire field of nursing is centered on helping people, understanding them, and being their advocate. This is what I have always wanted to do, and to do that professionally is an incredible opportunity for me.

Nursing has all the aspects of my perfect job, which is why I am so enthusiastic about applying for it. Firstly, it is a job that will require me to connect to people and find out what they need and why they need it. I have pride in my social skills that allow me to listen to what the people are actually saying, and get them to open up to me in a way that fosters problem-solving. Secondly, nursing is a job that will require me to apply the knowledge of human physiology and psychology to real cases. I enjoy learning new information and applying it, which I have done while helping others in their academic and professional activities.

Lastly, nursing is a job that will allow me to see a complex system of healthcare and find areas that can be improved for the benefit of others. I am very interested in being an advocate for the rights of others, which I frequently have engaged in online.

Nursing is a rewarding profession that is suitable for someone with my interests and skills. Bisognano writes that nursing is “intellectually challenging, yet it is also physically demanding and at times emotionally draining” (425). Being challenged is something I enjoy as an opportunity to become a better person. If my overcoming of that challenge helps another human being, then it is a worthwhile pursuit for me.
