Creating premises for fostering a healthier community is one of the numerous responsibilities of an APRN (American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2014: Healthgrades Report to the Nation: Executive Summary, 2014). Therefore, a nurse must promote target patients with relevant information concerning the corresponding services. Despite the recent changes in the nursing environment, which has led to a rise in prices and the inconsistent performance of the nursing staff, a reconsideration of the current approach toward the distribution of roles and responsibilities among nurses along with an increase in awareness of the target audience will help address the issues.
First, the issue regarding the uneven performance of hospitals and nurses needs to be brought up. The differences in quality rates are inevitable; however, it is up to an APRN to design the approach that will allow for introducing uniform performance standards. In other words, a leadership approach that will help promote high-quality services will have to be designed.
In addition, the increasing concern for the financial issues, particularly, the fees for the nursing services provided, should be viewed as one of the primary sources of concern for an APRN. On the one hand, the increase in revenues of healthcare facilities should be interpreted as a positive tendency. Indeed, given the current issues related to the lack of staff and the following burnout rates rise among the nursing staff (Usha, 2016), an increase in financial resources and, therefore, more options for hiring staff and improving the quality of services is a welcomed change. On the other hand, the increase in the prices will trigger an inevitable drop in customers. In other words, patients will feel reluctant about visiting a doctor; thus, there will be a possibility for a steep rise in mortality rates due to late management of a health issue and the untimely provision of nursing services.
Given the information concerning the increase in the costs and the subsequent rise in the health issues that the patients face because of their unwillingness to use expensive nursing treatment, it is reasonable to suggest that raising awareness among the target members of the population should be the primary focus of concern for an APRN at present. It will be necessary to make sure that the patients should be able to receive the necessary services in a timely fashion. The significance of the program aimed at increasing patient awareness is predisposed by the fact that, when delayed, the treatment process becomes increasingly complicated and is unlikely to have any tangible effect on the patient (Chakrabarti, Benjamin, & Chakrabarti, 2015).
The changes that the U.S. nursing environment has suffered cannot be deemed as huge, yet they have definitely left a mark on the patients, as well as on the members of the community, i.e., the patients. Even though the rates of patient death, as well as disease contraction and disorder development, have been reduced significantly, the general pricing strategy adopted by the modern nursing facilities cannot be deemed as reasonable since it makes patients question the sensibility of consulting a nursing expert in case of a minor health issue. Therefore, it is the responsibility of an APRN to make sure that the patients should be aware of the significance of regular check-ups. Particularly, an APRN must use the available tools, including traditional and modern media, as the means of attracting patients’ attention to current health concerns. Thus, the environment for a healthier community to be fostered can be created.
